Weijia Jiang Biography

She was born on June 6, 1983, in Xiamen, China, to Liya Wei and Huade “John” Jiang. When her parents migrated to the United States, they settled in Buckhannon, West Virginia.

Her parents owned a restaurant, Chinatown Restaurant, but they’re retired. She grew interested in journalism at the very young age of 13, and with the aid of her teacher, she submitted a homemade TV show to submit to a competition run by Channel One.


Weija obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the College of William & Mary. She received her master’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University.


According to her LinkedIn profile, she started her career at WBOC-TV as a Reporter after obtaining her Master’s. Two years later, she moved to WJZ-TV, where she worked as the General Assignment Reporter from June 2008 to June 2012.

Weijia joined WCBS as a General Assignment Reporter and worked for three years and a month before joining CBS News as a Correspondent. She grew to Senior White House Correspondent within eight years of working with them.
