Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Triage and Patient Assessments:
   • The Dermatology Clinician will be responsible for conducting a thorough clinical triage for all dermatology-related referrals. This includes performing in-depth patient assessments to diagnose, treat and offer advice for managing both acute and chronic dermatological conditions.
2. Minor Surgical Procedures:
   • The role involves performing minor surgeries, particularly the excision of low-risk basal cell carcinoma, following the national guidelines. This ensures that patients receive timely and accurate treatment while adhering to best practices in dermatological care.
3. Patient Management and Prescription:
   • The Dermatology Clinician will handle prescription management in line with Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) formularies. They will also work closely with patients, assisting in developing and supporting self-management plans for long-term conditions.
4. Professional Development and Learning:
   • Continuous personal and professional development is integral to this role. The successful candidate must maintain their clinical expertise by staying informed about the latest relevant literature and undertaking training in line with GMC and Royal College of General Practitioners standards.
5. Effective Communication:
   • Clear and empathetic communication with patients, their families and other healthcare professionals is essential. The clinician must ensure that confidentiality, patient dignity and sensitivity are upheld at all times during discussions and treatment.
6. Quality Service Delivery:
   • Following National Service Framework (NSF), National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and evidence-based care standards is a key aspect of this role. The clinician will also engage in self and peer reviews, audits and shared learning initiatives to continuously improve the quality of care provided.
7. Leadership and Collaboration:
   • As part of the broader clinical team, the Dermatology Clinician will actively contribute to clinical governance meetings. Their leadership will support team development and they will help foster a cooperative and collaborative work environment.
8. Risk Management:
   • The clinician will be responsible for assessing and managing risks, ensuring a safe environment for both patients and staff. This involves compliance with health and safety regulations and maintaining vigilance in the clinical setting.
9. Information and Record Management:
   • Accurate and thorough record-keeping is crucial. The clinician will use clinical software, such as SystmOne, to maintain precise records and data. This not only supports patient care but also helps with audits and monitoring processes.
10. Learning and Development in Practice:
    • The clinician will be expected to regularly update mandatory training, including safeguarding and life support training. They will also participate in educating both patients and colleagues, contributing to the overall knowledge and skill development within the clinic.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

1. Professional Registration:
   • The candidate must maintain relevant professional registration with the GMC and ensure that they have up-to-date medical indemnity and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certification.
2. Clinical Expertise:
   • Significant experience in dermatology is essential. The clinician must demonstrate proven competence in diagnosing and treating various dermatological conditions and performing minor surgical procedures.
3. Communication Skills:
   • Excellent communication skills are a key requirement. The clinician must be adept at handling sensitive information and delivering clear, concise guidance to patients and colleagues alike.
4. Team Collaboration:
   • The ability to work effectively within a team is vital. The clinician will be expected to contribute meaningfully to meetings and support the team in achieving shared clinical goals.
5. Commitment to High-Quality Care:
   • A strong focus on delivering high-quality care, following national guidelines and continuously seeking improvement through quality control activities is a must.
6. Technological Proficiency:
   • The clinician must be proficient in using clinical software to manage patient records and analyze data for effective patient care.

Compensation and Working Hours:

• The pay structure for this role is competitive and follows Communitas Clinics’ established rates.
• Scheduling is flexible, with clinics arranged in consultation with Clinician Managers. Any requested changes to the clinic schedule require at least one month’s notice.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check:

This role falls under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, meaning it is necessary for the successful candidate to submit a Disclosure request to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB). This check is required to assess any prior criminal convictions.
